Introduction to Guitar, Bass, and Piano

IIn this lesson, students are walked through each measure of “Closer” which uses the first three strings of the guitar.  The notation for the song is included in a PDF file.  In addition to reinforcing pitch letter names of the notes on the first three strings, as well as reinforcing rhythmic concepts of quarter notes and quarter rests, half notes and half rests, and eighth notes, students are introduced to eighth rests, first and second endings, as well as a review of the concept of ties and rhythmic counting and values of dotted quarter notes.

In this lesson, students are walked through each measure of “Closer” which uses the 2nd and 3rd strings of the bass guitar. The notation for the song is included in a PDF file. In addition to reinforcing bass clef pitch letter names of the notes on the 2nd and 3rd strings, as well as reinforcing rhythmic concepts of dotted quarter notes, eighth notes, students are introduced to first and second endings, and review the concept of ties, rhythmic counting, and specifically the values of dotted quarter notes.

Piano

In this lesson, students are guided through the notes and rhythms required to play “Closer.” Tasks for the right hand and left hand are separated in instruction. Students will review pitch notation letter names on the grand staff, and will incorporate rhythmic concepts of whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, dotted quarter notes, quarter rests, eighth notes, eighth rests and syncopated ties. Students will be required to play two different chords in the left hand in whole notes while a right hand melodic line plays above.
