Where It All Began
Our Story
YMU started with a clear mission — to build a real community where young musicians could come together, share their journeys, and grow as artists and people.
This video dives into the origin of YMU, the vision that drives it, and how it has become more than a program — it's a family. It's a story of challenges, triumphs, and the power of music to bring people closer, and to strengthen entire communities.
Inside the Program
Get To Know Our Students
YMU students learn in collaborative settings as they develop musical skills, build friendships, gain confidence, and acquire vocational experiences through public performances. As the only in-school music education non-profit for grades 5–12 in Miami, YMU supports the lives and well-being of over 12,000 students in our inner cities every year. Enjoy what it is like to be a YMU drumline student and participate in our program.
Live & On Stage
Watch A Performance
YMU's after-school performing ensemble programs focus on students who want to study music on a deeper level. Students can participate in performing Rock and Jazz Ensembles, Songwriting, Stage Production, and Internships. Classes are kept small to ensure a more intimate mentor-to-student experience. Our performing ensembles participate in over 185 performances during our annual concert season.
