Support Young Musicians

Transforming Lives & Communities Through Music

Young Musicians Unite started with the band program at Young Men's Preparatory Academy. With a shared love for music, they worked towards creating a movement that would positively impact young musicians. Through their efforts, they brought music to those who may not have had the chance to experience it, then expanded the mission to all of Miami.

Since 2013, YMU has empowered 37,000+ students in communities like Overtown, Wynwood, and Little Haiti.

Increase Student's Confidence

Our programs increase student confidence, creativity, academic engagement, and school pride.

Sustainable Music Progression

We partner with schools to create sustainable music progression from elementary through high school.

Rooted in Local Communities

Our scalable model is rooted in local communities to build a more equitable future—one beat at a time.

Help provide students with free access to music education

It only takes a $30 donation to provide a drum kit and a $454 donation covers one year of free in-school music education for one student.

100% of your donation will directly fund music education programs in local communities.

I've been playing drums since I was six, and music has made my life better in so many ways. I play in my school's modern band—we've worked on songs like Oye Como Va—and I also play every Sunday at church, which is how it all started. When my older cousin switched from drums to piano, I stepped in, and I've been playing ever since. YMU's modern band class has helped me grow a lot, especially with support from my teacher, Mrs. Ale. In the future, I want to play at bigger churches and keep drumming after high school.

Everything changed when I joined YMU as a freshman. Performing "Hotel California" for my audition—my first time playing with a band—gave me the push I needed. By 10th grade, I felt nearly professional, and the Jazz Collective took things to the next level. YMU gave me real-world experience—from gigs to working with pro sound crews—and helped me grow as a musician. Now I've been accepted to Berklee College of Music to major in Scoring for Visual Media. I hope to compose for games, films, and media, create my own music, and play in bands. YMU gave me the skills and confidence to chase that dream.

Playing the flute has opened up a whole new world for me—helping me focus, explore my passion, and try things I never imagined I'd enjoy. I've learned so much from my music teachers, Mr. Madden and Mr. Kirkland, who've really helped me grow. Being part of a music program feels like an honor, especially knowing not every school offers one. I love listening to classical music, K-pop, and Spanish music—artists like Stray Kids and Olivia Rodrigo inspire me. One day, I hope to be an artist or professional flute player and go to college to keep following my passion for music.
