Introduction to Guitar, Bass, and Piano

In this lesson, students are walked through each notation line of “Muevete,” which uses the first four strings of the guitar. The notation for the song is included in a PDF file. In addition to reinforcing letter names of notes located on the first four strings as they relate to treble clef notation, as well as rhythmic concepts of dotted quarter notes, eighth notes, ties, and 1st/2nd endings, students will have to shift fret hand positions to execute high A’s and B’s as notated.

In addition to reinforcing letter names of notes as they relate to bass clef notation, as well as rhythmic concepts of dotted quarter notes, eighth notes and ties, students will have to correctly interpret a syncopated passage in the bass line.

In this lesson, students are guided through the notes and rhythms required to play “Billie Jean.” Each hand’s tasks are separated in instruction, and students will review pitch notation letter names on a grand staff. Concepts of naming black keys with sharps and flats are also reviewed to correctly play the pitches, and rhythmic concepts of whole notes, eighth notes and eighth rests are incorporated. Students will be required to play three-note chords in the right hand (some of which can be executed using both hands), and also play synchronous whole notes consisting of three-note chords in the right hand with a bass note in the left hand.
