Lesson 5

In this lesson, students are introduced to some of the “Advanced Beat” functions within “Garage Band.” Functions covered are “Note Repeat,” which by definition repeats a note a user-set number of times, “Chance,” which randomly decides to play or not play notes within a selected track, and “Velocity,” which controls the overall volume of elements in a track. Students are guided through a sample composition where these effects are explained and demonstrated. Experimentation is also done with adding some other percussion sounds into the groove besides the three basic fundamental sounds. The lesson concludes with encouraging students to create their own beats and use some of the Advanced Beat Sequencer Functions to add variety to their grooves.
