Curriculum
YMU curriculum provides students ages 10-18 with the opportunity to study music no matter where they are. Students can choose between courses in Music Technology, Drumline, Early Learning Pitch and Rhythm, Modern Band, and or Beginning Band. Courses include interactive video lessons, PDF Lessons, assignments, and play along tracks. All courses culminate in a community collaborative virtual performance web series "From Live To Your Living Room".
Drumline
This 100% percussion-based ensemble is one of our most rigorous and disciplined programs. Students learn to work as a unit through learning to read music, technical exercises and rudiments, and learning cadences for performance. This ensemble is especially suited for marches, demonstrations, and public performances.
Instrumentation: Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Cymbals, Tenor Drums.
Grades: 6-12
Modern Band
In this guitar-driven ensemble students master basic chords, technique, gain facility on their instrument, and learn to read music. As they work towards their end of semester performance, students learn to play Spanish-influenced instrumental music as well as popular songs.

Grades: 6-12
Music Production
This non-genre specific course requires no previous musical training and offers students the opportunity to compose, arrange and mix their own music. Students create their own beats and original songs through GarageBand software on iPads.
Instrumentation: iPads, Microphones, Recording Station, and Voice
Grades: 5-12
Early Learning Pitch and Rhythm
This engaging program focuses on offering a basic understanding of music through the use of percussion instruments and vocal training while developing a strong sense of pitch and rhythm. This course equips the students with the musical foundation necessary for a successful transition into middle school.
Instrumentation: Vocals, Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Percussion instruments
Grades: 4-5
Beginning Band
This brass and woodwind focused course is geared towards first time band students. Repertoire ranges from popular songs to marching band hits and jazz standards.
Instrumentation: Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Tuba, Baritone Horn, Clarinet, Flute, Percussion
