Lesson 14

In this lesson, students are introduced to the three sections of the “Flam Exercise” by first playing paired eighth notes in double strokes accenting the downbeat, then accenting the upbeat, next accenting both notes, and finally the flam is inserted as a grace note to an accented downbeat. The instructor demonstrates each of the levels of variation, then performs them in context of a full drumline. The lesson concludes with encouraging students to continue to practice the exercise at different tempos and dynamics for a greater level of mastery.
