Lesson 7
In this video, students are guided through the notation and performance fundamentals necessary to perform the snare drum part to the four sections of “The Moose” and are shown a demonstration of each section after a discussion of its rhythmic counting, as well as a demonstration of the snare drum part being performed in context of the entire drumline. Students review rhythmic counting for eighth notes and sixteenth notes and whole rests, utilize five-stroke rolls, review accents focusing on proper stick height, execute a crescendo, and must alternate between striking the rim and the drum head, all of which is demonstrated by the instructor. The lesson concludes by encouraging students to practice their snare drum part until fluidity is achieved.
