Lesson 9

In this lesson, students are guided through a buzz roll exercise that incorporates rhythmic accents within the duration of the roll. Students are taught the rhythmic placement of the accents by introducing the accents on the correct part of the beat corresponding to single stroke sixteenth notes, then the accents are translated onto the buzz roll replacing the single strokes. The instructor demonstrates each of the measures one at a time, and reviews each section by incorporating a performance of a full drumline executing the exercise. The lesson concludes with encouraging students to practice slowly at first, then accelerate until mastery is achieved.
