Lesson 3
In this lesson, students are introduced to meter, which is the pattern of the grouping of beats in music, and the notation for these meters, known as time signatures. Time signatures of 4/4 and 3/4, are discussed, then the instructor performs music within each time signature to assist learners in feeling the meter for each time signature. The lesson concludes with a 3/4 time signature example for students to perform that combines a measure of quarter notes with a measure of eighth notes, emphasizing single stroke technique that challenges students to alternate hands on the beginning of the measure as necessary.
