Lesson 6
In this lesson, students will be introduced to another 2-measure snare drum cadence pattern while being introduced to double strokes and paradiddles. In addition to incorporating these new performance techniques, students will be required to perform a combination of rhythms this time, including quarter notes, eighth notes, and sixteenth notes. First, the rhythmic aspects are discussed, then the new performance techniques of double strokes and paradiddles are incorporated. The instructor carefully demonstrates each of the performance techniques separately, then discusses how it applies to the notation of the cadence. Each measure is taught separately, then combined into a cadence pattern. Students are challenged by accelerating the tempo of the cadence, and the lesson concludes with encouraging students to continue to practice the complete 2-measure cadence until fluidity is achieved.
