Lesson 1

In this lesson, students are introduced to the foundations of time signatures in terms of how many beats exist per measure, and are guided with some aural examples of drum loops in various time signatures to identify the meter and pulse.  Time signatures covered include 4/4, 3/4 and 6/8.  Students are then introduced to a Music Production Meter Grid, and correlations between downbeats and subdivisions of the beat are made visually on the Grid and aurally through the beat demonstrated.  The lesson concludes with students being encouraged to listen deeper to their favorite music and find the meter and subdivisions that exist within.
