Lesson 8
In this lesson, students are walked through the various functions within “Garage Band” that help a composer remain organized within their session. Students will learn how to rename their sampled MIDI tracks within their composition, based on their instrumentation and function within the composition, to maintain structure and organization throughout the composing process. Students are also introduced to a recommended order of instrumentation to follow when creating a composition, and tools on how to merge non-overlapping effects-tracks to save visual space. Labeling tracks with information, such as instrumentation and function within the song, allows composers to come back to a composition after some time and easily remember the structure, form, instrumentation, and effects that were used in the composition to then continue working on it, derive ideas from it, or share their composition structure ideas with others. The lesson concludes with learning how to save the composition and rename it, as well as demonstrating how to export the file in a variety of formats.
Assignment
