The Studio:
Open Studio Time: Free production, recording, mixing, and mastering sessions for musicians, theatre, drama, and film production, for students of MDCPS. Students applying for arts-based colleges will gain the resources to record a professional college audition tape.
Internship: Ten students will gain valuable vocational experience and professional development as studio music engineers under the training of professional recording engineers. Students can apply these skills to careers in event production, live sound, stage production, and many other technology-centered fields.
All sessions will be conducted by some of Miami’s leading professionals in the recording industry.
Local student artists will be supported in creating new works.
Our Story:
In partnership with the YWCA of Miami Gardens, The Miami Music Alliance, Saves the Music Foundation, and ONErpm, Young Musicians Unite (YMU) will provide and enable artistic students of Miami Dade Public Schools (MDCPS) access to a free state-of-the-art multimedia recording studio. The Youth Recording Studio is a community recording studio that erases the barrier of entry for students into the music industry. The studio will provide the Miami Gardens Community free audio/recording training for 10 students as well as free creative recording sessions for students, non-profit orgs, and arts teachers. Students are supported in writing and releasing their own music, recording audition tapes, and lead their own podcasts. We are enabling students to become leaders and contributors to the change in their community as they are able to share their stories and original new works. Students own their masters and all original music is released digitally through platforms such as Spotify and iTunes.
Artistic students across multiple disciplines such as music, theatre, drama, and film production will have the opportunity to record their works with professional producers in a real-world recording session, gaining insight into the workflow and skills involved in making a professional recording. Students will leave their experience with a finished product, whether it be a college audition tape, sound effects and music for a public theatre production, editing and mixing for a students short film, or a song ready for release on itunes and spotify.
